2025 GPSR Elections

It is time for election of Board of Directors and President-Elect for Greater Palm Springs REALTORS®. Please review the candidate bios and get more info.

Jon Barrist, President-Elect

My name is Jon Barrist, and I am asking for your vote as I run for the office of President-Elect in 2025, ascending to President in 2026 for the Greater Palm Springs Realtors®.

In 2019, my husband and I moved to Palm Springs, where we became active within the community and the Greater Palm Springs Realtors® Association. I recently joined JohnHart Real Estate and have established an incredible team. I have a strong passion for the Greater Palm Springs community and am dedicated to its growth and success.

I grew up in Miami Beach, Florida, where I developed a strong work ethic that helped me earn a Master of Business Administration from the University of Miami. My professional career began with IBM Corp, where I traveled to many cities throughout the United States for training and teaching purposes. During my time with IBM, I briefly relocated to Phoenix before a promotion took me to Orange County. It was there, in 2005, that I transitioned to real estate with Coldwell Banker.

My passion for giving back to the community dates back to my involvement with the Miami Beach Jaycees, a civic organization that teaches leadership skills to its members. I had the opportunity to chair many projects and events that benefited the organization, the city of Miami Beach, and several charity organizations.

With my extensive experience in business and real estate, combined with a deep commitment to community service, I am excited about the prospect of leading the Greater Palm Springs Realtors®. I am committed to serving our community with professionalism, integrity, and a focus on achieving our collective goals.

Thank you for your support.

Art Alvarez, Director

I’ve been active in the real estate and residential mortgage industry in California for over 40 years and first obtained my real estate salesperson license in 1996. I’ve held senior management positions, including President, of a publicly traded regional mortgage banking firm headquartered in Newport Beach, California with branch offices in 7 western states from the late 1980’s to the late 1990’s.

I began doing business in the Coachella Valley as a mortgage broker in 1999 that continues to this day. In addition, I actively sold real estate in Southern California including Orange, Los Angeles, San Diego, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, focusing on REO properties for Downey Savings, US Bank and SchoolsFirst FCU, after the great recession of 2008. During this time, I maintained my Realtor® primary membership with OCR and subsequent to that joined both CDAR and GPSR as an affiliate member over a decade ago.

Though GPSR is the smaller of the two Realtor associations in the Coachella Valley, I found GPSR to be a more inclusive and supportive association and its membership to be more enthusiastic and actively engaged in the association and its activities. This has always impressed me about GPSR and I made a conscious decision to support GPSR any way I can.

I have tried to consistently support the association as a sponsor for the associations various fund-raising efforts for local charities in the Coachella Valley. I applied for secondary membership in GPSR as a Realtor because I would like to further my support of GPSR in a more meaningful way.

In 2025 I will make GPSR my primary Realtor membership and OCR my secondary Realtor membership. I hope to be considered worthy of election as a Director of the GPSR for the coming term.

Art Alvarez, MortgageWorks/New Way Home Realty

Frank Alvarez, Director

My name is Frank Alvarez, and I am a Realtor®. I was originally licensed in 1988 and became a licensed Broker in 1991. My career has included Commercial Real Estate, Mortgage origination, and Residential Real Estate Sales. I have been a member of the South Orange County Association of Realtors®, Laguna Beach Board of Realtors® and Greater Palm Springs Realtors® (for close to 20 years). I have served on several GPSR Committees; however, MLS has been my main focus. I have served as MLS Chairman off and on for over 10 years. I have also served as a Director, President-Elect, President, and Immediate Past President of this association.

Our association is unique both in the members and affiliates we serve, as well as our region. My main focus has always been to serve the needs of our membership: and it will continue to be so. We are facing unprecedented changes being brought on by the NAR Settlement Agreement and my goal will be to make sure our members are educated and served by the Association as we all find new ways to continue providing our services to our clients. I was appointed to be the upcoming Region Chair for CAR Region 28, so I would like to continue to serve you on our local association as a Director for one more term. Thank you for your consideration.
